The Porcellio Scaber is one seriously prolific little Isopod which has established populations on every continent except for Antarctica. We consider this species an excellent choice for all temperate & tropical live vivariums (50-95% relative humidity) which house medium or large inhabitants.
Scabers will act as janitors to keep the vivarium clean, as well as act as a snack that provides a natural calcium boost. They get 3/4" as adults and have a hard, calcified body which requires a calcium source such as cuttle bone or eggshell to maintain. These isopods enjoy warm temperatures and adequate moisture. They require a moisture gradient and thus are quite hardy.

Our P. Scaber cultures come in our own bioactive substrate in 8oz deli cups. We provide them with leaf litter and calcium to ensure their needs are met. Our cultures come in quantities of 12 and 24. These guys require a moisture gradient to succeed in molting and thermoregulation. We provide opposite corners of wet and dry sphagnum moss as well as proper ventilation to achieve this.
